Special Notice re: COVID 19

Dear UUCY Members and Friends:

In order to help prevent the spread of the covid-19 virus, the Unitarian Universalist Church of Yakima is suspending all officially- sanctioned UUCY in-person services, meetings and gatherings, including events outside of the church building, until further notice. This is a unanimous UUCY Board of Trustees decision. That means there will be no Sunday church service this Sunday, March 15th, and beyond, until further notice. It also means that the book clubs, Wednesday coffee and similar church events are cancelled until further notice. We will be monitoring and reassessing on a daily basis.

The Unitarian Universalist Association has recommended that all gatherings of over 25 people be suspended. However, due to the fact that we are in a state with more COVID-19 infections than most, and the fact that the majority of our members are in a high-risk group, we are cancelling all live activities until we determine that it is safe.

Rev. Jones is keeping his office hours and regular administrative functions of the church are ongoing.

Maintenance staff is using enhanced cleaning and disinfecting techniques so that our tenants are as safe as possible, but it is a very big church building, and anyone who comes to the building should have their own hand sanitizer as a precaution. We are asking our tenants to use an enhanced prevention protocol.

We care about our UUCY members and friends, and we know that many are anxious or in need at this time. We have some volunteers who will shop and deliver groceries and supplies for you if you need it. There may be other needs that you have, and we will do our best to help you. If you need some help please contact Mike Gempler via the church. You can contact our church office at admin@uucyakima.org or 509-453-8448. If you would like to help out with this effort to support our community please let us know! I know that some people may need information or assurance during this time, and your calls are welcome. Please don’t be shy about it; we are here in this together.

Our church community means so much to us, and we will do things to keep us all in contact, and fed with inspirational, interesting and hopefully humorous information to keep us all mentally healthy and happy during this crazy time. One thing to look forward to: Rev. Jones will be providing short sermons and other tidbits online through this website!

Thank you, and hang in there! Let’s go through this together!
