Practicing Resistance

In trying to live Unitarian Universalist values, including our commitment “To affirm and promote the inherent worth and dignity of every person,” how can we understand the evil that we encounter in our world? The Rev. Tess Baumberger addressed this question in a sermon she first delivered just before the 2024 election. She offers a definition of evil based not on what evil is, but on the destructive impact of what evil does. And she outlines five spiritual practices by which we, as individuals and as a faith community, can confront evil. Susan Kaphammer incorporates Rev. Baumberger’s sermon into our service examining our call to practice resistance, even in the face of evil.
